Bangalore Institute of Dental Science

In 1991, the Institution was established under the dynamic direction under the dynamic Mr K Subba Rao, Chairman of VEF The Institution has grown by leaps and leaps. The first batch of students graduated from the Institution on November 8, 1995, which also happens to be the day of the red letter that the most prestigious Dental Council of India gave recognition to the Institution. Bids Hostel

  • Bids Hostel is located on the campus situated right in the middle of the city along Hosur Main Road. It is easy to access and is a short distance to Malls as well as Shopping Places.
  • Accommodation is available between single occupancy and two people sharing a room. The hostels offer everything needed to ensure that they are not deprived of their familiar surroundings when focusing on their academics within the college campus.
  • The entire hostel complexes of BIDS are protected by 24-hour security maintenance, engineering, power, and water supply. The hostel has mattresses, a cot, a study table, an armchair, a cabinet for every student, and other necessities.
  • The hostel is equipped with RO-purified drinking water medical aid, solar-heated water facilities, water cooler, Television room, reading room area, recreation room, etc.
  • The hostels serve clean, tasty food(Many kinds of food items and snacks, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, are available to students with their preferred tastes in various styles of Indian and other) within the mess hall and the hostels. They are managed by full-time wardens, who are in charge of maintaining and monitoring the hostels.

BACHELOR OF DENTAL SURGERY

Bachelor Of Dental Surgery or BDS is among the most renowned and prestigious levels of dentistry. BDS is the only academic and professional field of dentistry offered in India. In the field of medical education, it’s the second choice of students following the MBBS course.

It is a BDS diploma. It is conferred following the successful completion of a four-year academic program and the one-year compulsory training program in dentistry education. Dental Courses include lectures, demonstrations groups, discussions seminar, conference work, and clinical sessions.

Eligibility to take the BDS course

QUALIFYING EXAMINATION:

A person who is seeking to be admitted to one of the BDS courses:

A) Must have completed the two-year Pre-University Examinations of the Pre-University Board of Karnataka with English and Physics Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate must be able to pass the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately.

b) Should have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate Education established by State Governments/ Central Government and recognized as equivalent to two year Pre University examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and the candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually.

c) Should have passed Intermediate examination in Science of an Indian University/Board/Council or other recognized examining bodies with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which shall include a practical test in these subjects and English as a compulsory subject. The candidate must have completed English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in a single session.

d) must have passed the pre-professional/premedical exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology following the examination for higher secondary school. The pre-professional premedical exam will consist of a practical Physics, Chemistry and Biology test and English as a compulsory subject.

e) Must have completed the one year of the three-year degree course at an accredited university that includes Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a test of practice in these subjects if the exam is a “University Examination” in which case the candidate must have passed the subjects that comprise English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology independently during the pre-university or any other exam as specified in the preceding clauses.

f) Must have passed the B.Sc. Examination at one of the Indian Institution, provided they have successfully passed the B.Sc. examination by completing not less than two of the subjects listed below: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) as long as the student has passed the subjects in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in their way in the qualifying exams stipulated in the clauses (a), (b) and (C).

QUALIFYING MARKS:

THE SELECTION OF STUDENTS TO DENTAL COLLEGES SHALL BE BASED ON MERIT PROVIDED THAT:

If admitted by way of qualifying examinations, candidates aspiring to be admitted to BDS course must pass separately in the subjects comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. They must have a minimum of 50% marks for Physics, Chemistry and Biology during the qualifying exam. For those who belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, the marks achieved for Physics, Chemistry and Biology combined in the qualifying exam will are 40 per cent instead of 50 per cent as mentioned above. They must also have satisfactory scores in English.

In the event of being admitted through a competitive entrance exam, an applicant must have been able to pass individually in the areas that include Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have at least 50 percentage points for Physics, Chemistry and Biology combined at the qualifying exam and must be included in the merit list compiled by the results of this competitive entrance exam by securing at least 50 per cent scores on Physics, Chemistry and Biology combined in the competitive exam. For candidates from Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes that the government notifies, The marks earned for Physics, Chemistry and Biology combined in the qualifying exam and the competitive entrance exam are 40 per cent instead of 50% as mentioned above. AGE REQUIREMENT:

The applicant must have reached at least 17 when they apply for admission or will attain this age by the 31st day of December in the year that the applicant is seeking admission.

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

1 University exam will be conducted at the end of each academic calendar year.

2 Candidates who meet the criteria in attendance, progression and other regulations set by the University may only be allowed to take the exam.

3 Any student who fails to not complete the BDS course in all disciplines within 9 years, including one year of mandatory Rotatory Internship beginning from when they were admitted, will be exempted from the program.

4 A candidate who fails one area of an examination can be allowed to attend the next class and sit for the subject and then complete it successfully before being permitted to sit for the next examination.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION

Written tests in every area will consist of a paper lasting three hours and given a maximum mark of 70.

CRITERIA FOR PASS IN THE UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION

To be awarded a pass mark for a subject, the candidate must score 50 per cent marks in the university exam both in Theory and practical/clinical examinations independently, as specified below :

For a pass in Theory, the candidate must score 50% marks in the university theory examination, i.e. marks scored in the University written exam, viva voce exam, and internal assessments (Theory) all taken together, i.e. 50/100 marks.

B I) 75 per cent of the time in Theory with 75% of the time in the Practical/Clinicals of every subject throughout the year.

II) If the subject is one where the curriculum runs over several academic years, and therefore there isn’t a University Examination in the subject (i.e. subjects that are not exam-oriented), The minimum requirement for attendance must not exceed 70 per cent for Theory and Practical and Clinical. However, when taking the professional exam in the subject, the applicant must meet the requirements of (a) below.

c In the case of pre-clinical Prosthetic Dentistry and Preclinical Conservative Dentistry in II BDS in which there is no written exam, the minimum requirement to passing marks is 50% marks scored in the practical and Viva Voce, which are combined in The University Examination which includes internal assessment, i.e. 50/100 marks.

Candidates who have scored at least 65% of the marks total or more will be recognized as having passed the exam in the First Class. Successful candidates are admitted to Second Class. Candidates who score 75% or higher is eligible for the distinction. Only those who have passed the entire test on the first attempt are qualified to be awarded distinction or classification.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT EXAMINATION

A minimum of 3 Internal Assessment examinations for each subject will be conducted. All the students must appear for all three examinations. An average mark of these examinations shall be sent to the University at the end of the academic year. FIELD PROGRAMME IN COMMUNITY DENTISTRY:

As a part of the community dentistry program, students in the Clinical years will have to attend the various dental camps/ field programmes as part of the BDS examination requirements to the satisfaction of the head of the Institution.
